What is your Social Media Strategy

November 28, 2010

In this day and age, every business with a web presence needs to have a social media strategy. Working with social media not only increases brand awareness online and drives traffic to your website, but it also helps manage your online reputation.

One of the keys to a successful social media strategy is to know where to establish your presence. It seems that everywhere you turn, there is a social network springing up. To those who are new to the game, too much time and resources can be spent focusing on social networks that offer little in return. Instead, focus on the top social networks that can actually help your business grow.

Top Social Networks
The list of top social networks can vary slightly by industry, but generally any business that uses those in this list should see results:

  1. Twitter: Twitter is easy, quick, and can be a lot of fun to use. They are also introducing social media advertising with sponsored tweets.
  2. Facebook: Millions of people are on Facebook. They offer business pages that customers can be a fan of and have a social media advertising network that is a close rival to Google’s Adwords.
  3. Digg: This allows people to vote on your content—you are creating rich content, aren’t you?—so that others can easily find it. When they find your content, they find your website.
  4. Linkedin: Like Facebook, you can create a business page and use your professional contacts to get the word out.
  5. Industry specific networks: As previously stated, it seems like every industry, hobby, and interest has its own social network or two. Do a bit of research and find which ones fit your business and get involved.
