How iPhone 6 Impacts Your Emails

The late Steve Jobs’ vision continues to hold through with the launch of the iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus which have made history as being one of the highest sold iPhone models ever, selling over 10 million units at launch stage and that number is only tipped to increase before the close of 2014. The new models boast a 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch screen respectively, both much larger in size than any previous iPhone allowing for an easier navigation and interface process.

These larger screens will automatically change the way a user interacts with all their regular platforms including email, so it’s probably good to take a look at how these changes could impact the way your subscribers access and view your email content.

  1. You have more preview space/header space

This means that more of your email pre-header can now be displayed allowing for a little over 13 characters to be viewable before the email is opened. This automatically allows you to use your pre-header even as a second subject line so get your content writers to craft something that fits into the character count and use it as another way to entice your readers to open your mail and read on.

  1. More display space for your email content

The ‘fold’ or the visual cut off point on a screen before you need to scroll down further to access is also now a larger amount of space with the new iPhone 6 & 6 Plus enabling you to get in more information before a reader needs to scroll down for more. Once you go through the journey of making them open your email, you need to be able to keep a reader hooked or chances are they won’t scroll down and read on. This means you can now use this space to create specific visuals, Infographics etc. that fit just above the fold’s cut off point and use it as a further appeal point to get readers to go through the rest of the content in your email.

  1. Enhanced Responsive Design

Most marketers have chosen to opt for responsive email designs that automatically optimize content for viewing across various screen sizes from desktop to laptop to mobile device and if you have already embarked on this journey – all the better! The point with the new iPhone models is that it is now an all new screen size which means your design team needs to take this into account when creating new content so that the optimization continues to work on this new device as well.
