What''s On Sale This Week

April 16, 2012

Even if your supermarket publishes (in print) weekly circulars and other supermarket news featuring discount products for the upcoming week, most people won't see it unless they visit your store. Increase foot traffic and sales by sending circulars to those on your subscriber list. Sending weekly lists of discounted products via email helps customers plan their trip and save money.

Build a Subscriber List

Get customers to sign up to receive products sales information and other news. Create a sign form and place near cash registers and at the customer information counter. Encourage employees to educate customers and persuade them to sign up. Make sure customers understand that signing up means additional savings, notice of new products, and other news like product safety recalls.

Running a supermarket means communicating with people every day to ensure a steady stream of customers. Use email marketing to help accomplish this.

Best Times to Send

Send product discounts and other information on the same day the circular is published. Customers that may not have visited your store that day now know what's on sale. Instead of visiting the supermarket up the street, they will probably visit yours. Other times to send weekly circulars:

· Saturday evenings

· Two weeks before major holidays

· Day before a one or two-day sale

Send a message within two days to remind customers of the sale. This is especially important during the holidays because customers typically have many errands and other things to do, which makes them forgetful. Send a 'last-minute' list of items on sale during the holidays to lure customers that may have forgotten to purchase that extra bag of flour or candy.

Other News to Share

In addition to announcing weekly sales of products, you can share other important news with customers. This news may include:

· Manufacturer discounts on products

· Food Safety and other health information

· Store closings for holidays

· Emergency food recalls

· Local events

· In-store contests

· Information about employees to develop more personal relationships between employees and customers

· Recipe ideas

As you can see, there are many ways you can connect with customers to keep them informed, educated, and entertained.
