List Building Using Existing Contacts

May 16, 2012

One of the best ways to maintain sales is by continuing to grow your subscriber list. All too often, Internet marketers and small business owners become complacent when it comes to growing a list, especially once they have an established customer base. But you can't rely on your list to keep you in business - no matter how profitable it seems at the moment.

Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

Subscribers come and go quickly - even those that purchase multiple goods and services from you. This can happen for many reasons, but once a subscriber opts out of your list or stops buying from you, it's up to you to replace that lost revenue. This is why maintaining a subscriber list by recruiting new subscribers every chance you get is so important. Actively seeking out new subscribers in addition to placing sign up forms on your website, blog, social media pages and other online marketing channels helps you remain profitable in the long run.

What About Your Friends...

In addition to sending sales and informational email messages, periodically send mass email inquiries about other people who might be interested in joining your list. Request that subscribers forward the message on to at least one other person - a friend, family member, coworker, teammate, spouse, or anyone else they can think of that would be interested in learning more about your business.

You should also post similar messages on social media and blog pages to encourage new subscribers to sign up. In your message, include a list of benefits and features. List popular topics you cover, customer testimonials, product reviews, case studies, and other information that would be beneficial to those reading the message. Make your mailing list seem irresistible and you will see an increase in opt-in requests.

Everyone Does It

There's nothing wrong with asking current subscribers to pass along email content to their friends and family members. If you don't want to send messages that explicitly ask for help in recruiting new subscribers, add a 'pass along to friend' button to make forwarding your messages quick and easy.

Most companies that engage in email marketing ask current subscribers to pass along bulk emails to others. Not only does this help you recruit new subscribers, but it also helps you find people that may really have a need for the types of goods and services you have to offer.
