Getting Your Subscribers to Take a Survey Isn’t Always Easy

August 07, 2011

Using email survey software makes it easy to take the pulse of your list subscribers and turn their results into quantifiable information that you can use to perfect your marketing methods. But simply because you create an email survey doesn’t mean that your customer base will actually participate in it. Sure, you’ll always get someone to take part, but without getting maximum involvement you won’t really get an accurate picture of how the majority of your audience thinks and feels about your company.

We’ve already discussed methods of enticing invitees of your email survey with various rewards – “take this survey and get a 10 percent coupon off your next purchase!” – but you don’t always have to buy people’s participation. In many situations, simply stating your case may be more than enough. The trick is to do it quickly. Here are a few tips on how to do that.

• Let them know what you’re emailing about. Don’t go into detail, just state the facts about the email survey.

• Tell them why it’s important that they participate. Here’s where you get to let your subscribers know that their opinions matter greatly.

• Inform them of the subject of the survey. You can’t just tell someone you’re asking for their survey participation without letting them know what kinds of questions they’ll be facing.

• Assure them it won’t take an eternity, and be honest. If you used email survey software to create a 50-question survey, let them know what they’re getting into. Of course, it’s best to keep email surveys extremely short to raise participation levels.
