Even though most people have access to various types of email code, template designs, fonts and color choices, this does not mean you should use all of these items at once when creating an email template. Overcrowding, contrasting colors and unreadable fonts can spell disaster for an Internet marketer or business person. Keep it simple to entice and encourage subscribers to make a purchase or just continue to subscribe.
Email Overcrowding
People scan computer, tablet and mobile phone screens instead of reading each word. This means email containing too many words, headlines, images, colors, tabs, navigation bars, links and icons makes it very difficult to understand what you're trying to say.
Pick and choose these items very carefully when designing an email template. Keep images to a minimum. Add links and icons at the bottom or at the top of email messages instead of cramming them in between email content. Use headlines only when changing topics.
Overcrowding is an even bigger problem now that more and more people use mobile devices with tiny screens to view content. This means you must be even more concerned with what you include. Remember that the content is still the most important part any email message, not the design elements. Use design elements to enhance content, not detract from it. If your design contains too many elements, it will appear overcrowded and overwhelming for subscribers.
Contrasting Colors
Choose a color scheme that includes no more than three colors. Avoid using bold, bright colors and instead choose calm, soothing colors. Do not use colors that contrast such yellow and red or orange and green. These colors will not appeal to many people and make scanning an email much more difficult.
Consider how you would feel reading an email with harsh, overbearing colors. Even if these colors match your business logo or showcase images in an interesting and fun way, consider how it is to stare at the screen for three to five minutes having to look at contrasting colors. Most subscribers will give up after about 30 seconds, so avoid eye strain, headaches and unpleasant feelings by choosing colors that are complementary and easy on the eyes.
