Bulk email marketing has consistently been an effective, inexpensive way to get your message out to potential customers. If you’re not using email marketing as part of your outreach strategy, you may want to consider adding it to the mix. Below are 3 ways to get started in the email blasting arena.
Use Compelling Subject Lines
Your subject line is one of the most important factors when it comes to open rates, or how many recipients actually click on your emails to see what is inside them. As a result, uninspiring subject lines which don’t grab the attention of your prospects can sabotage an otherwise well-designed campaign. Your campaign may offer great value or significant savings, but if a bland subject line prevents prospects from opening your emails, the campaign is not likely to be a success.
Following are a few guidelines to use when it comes to devising compelling subject lines:
1) Use bold language (Use the active tense when possible).
2) Tell them what the email contains (a free coupon; a chance to win; information on a great new product, etc.).
3) Express urgency. Everyone loves a bargain or a quality product, and if they feel the need to move fast to capitalize on your offer it should only further motivate recipients to open your email.
Keep Your Content Focused
While the subject line entices prospects to open your email, it is your content that closes the deal. Make sure you focus on clearly outlining your value proposition, then move on to your call to action once you’ve done so. Resist the urge to resort to a wall of text in order to convince prospects to take action. Consumer attention in this day and age is often fractured, and if your email doesn’t clearly outline the benefits of your product and then allow that product to be purchased, or customer contact data to be entered (or whatever your call to action entails) in a prompt manner, you risk losing their interest along with potential sales.
Design Your Emails with Mobile Usage in Mind
An increasing number of emails are initially read on mobile devices, which should play a factor in the design of emails for your mass email campaigns. Given the decreased space for viewing on most mobile devices, the importance of quickly making your point and getting to your call to action is magnified. If you must add further text, consider placing your call to action higher-up in your text (or above it) to help improve click-through rates.
