3 Types of (Exciting) Email Content

March 05, 2012

Are you running out of email content ideas? Have you used all of your best material and now you're stuck on what to send next? Have sales been lackluster lately? Maybe it's time to rethink how you send content to give subscribers the same quality information - just in a new format. Here are three ways to make an instant impact on subscribers and get out of the rut you're in.

Lights, Camera, Action!

Creating product demonstration videos, how-to tips and interactive guides is really easy these days. If you have a web camera or video camera and editing software, you're all set. Imagine how many additional sales you would make if subscribers saw first-hand how your products work? Not only would you be providing valuable information, but you would also connect with subscribers on an interactive level (this helps build trust).

After creating a short three to five minute video, upload it to a video sharing website like YouTube or your website. Send out a mass email advertising the video. Take it one step further by creating a series of how-to videos (release one each week).

The Power of Information

Whitepapers are short two to five page reports that outline a problem and possible solutions. These papers are read by business people and consumers to find answers and advice about a particular issue.

If you're unsure what to write about, consider your product(s) or service(s) and how they solve a problem(s). Clearly outline the problem at the beginning and then promote your product or service as the solution. You can also poll subscribers to see what problems they have and how your products or services can help solve them.

Current Events

Instead of sending a newsletter filled with sales information about your business, create an informational newsletter about the industry your business caters to. For example, if you sell plumbing equipment, create a weekly newsletter that includes the latest news in the plumbing industry. There are many online resources you can use (blogs, websites and newsletters dedicated to every industry ever created for you to gather information from).

But don't just regurgitate the information; create an angle that subscribers will identify with. If you read an article on the latest invoicing systems used by plumbers, use that information to talk about multiple ways to invoice customers (this is especially useful if you happen to sell computer software products to small business owners).

The Bottom Line

Keep your information fresh and always try to present it in a way that is exciting and new. Your subscribers may receive bulk emails from ten other Internet marketers so it's important to keep them clicking on your email so you can continue to run a successful business.
